The concept of asset-based thinking is a really positive approach to teaching/youth work that focuses on students strengths rather than deficits. I think this is really helpful to get students to succeed because you are focusing on when they are doing well rather than failing.
Some questions I have regarding asset based thinking are:
1. How does discipline work in this teaching model?
2. How do students react when their assets are highlighted?
3. Do the negative behaviors decrease?
Connection: This article reminded me of the idea of operant conditioning, which includes positive and negative reinforcement as well as positive and negative punishment. I used this method a lot at my old job where I worked with children with autism, and I found it very useful to pair different behaviors with different outcomes.
